Year end? Not quite.

So I guess Mookie will be giving you your snazzy year in review. I can still give you a few awesome tracks from this year, though. Some? Are definitely repeats of what’s already been posted, but I won’t assume you’ve been reading this all year. That would be pretty stupid of me.

Before all that? I do want to share another song – not from this year – with you all. As you know, I have been posting a little of the stuff Deerhunter has made. “Disappearing Ink” is definitely amongst my top songs for this year, by the way. Well, from last year’s album Microcastle, Deerhunter released one stellar tune in “Nothing Ever Happened”. The real highlight of the tune is the guitars and then the keyboards within the last minute to minute and a half. Epic shit. Don’t believe me? Take a listen for yourself.

So how about those top songs? Well, these aren’t really going to be much different than most of the lists you’d see out there, I’d imagine. First off, I have to say that the best video this year? We Have Band’s “You Came Out” is the clear winner here. In case you haven’t seen it yet? Here it is.

Now, on to what I deem the best tracks of the year. There really isn’t a challenge on the best cut of the year. For real. Now, I’m not the biggest Animal Collective fan. They’re a little hit or miss at times for me, which is probably a good thing. It keeps my mind clear to how I view all the tracks. Now, “My Girls” is just stellar in about every regard. So It’s an easy choice as the top track of the year.

As for the rest of my top tunes? Well, I have to say it’s a huge drop from #1 to #2. That doesn’t mean these aren’t good tracks, but Animal Collective I honestly think did something very unique and special in creating “My Girls”. Since I don’t really like making a list in order, I just want to put it out there that the next few tracks are among my favorites for this year.

The Horrors – Sea Within A Sea

Sunset Rubdown – You Go On Ahead (Trumpet Trumpet II)
Micachu – Golden Phone
Deerhunter – Disappearing Ink
YACHT – Waste of Time
White Denim – Regina Holding Hands
Atlas Sound ft. Panda Bear – Walkabout
Phoenix – Girlfriend
Shout Out Out Out Out – Bad Choices
Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros – 40 Day Dream
We Have Band – You Came Out
Animal Collective – What Would I Want? Sky

And now the normal bullshit thing to say – BUY STUFF! Seriously! And hell, if not? Donate some money to Mookie, who runs this site. He busts his ass for you guys to bring you some awesome music, and I feel quite honored that he asked me to help him out. So yeah…..do that.

Phoenix….not Arizona

So we have yet more! They seem to be possibly the most remixed guys this year, and it’s quite a mixed bag of remixes that have come out. So today has me writing about two more remixes from the Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix album that will most likely win just about every indie award that is out there (with apologies to Animal Collective).

In order to sort of find out where the remixers – in this case Passion Pit’s drummer Nate Donmoyer as Shuttle and also by Animal Collective – you would need to hear both parts one and two of the song remixed. In this case? It’s “Love Like a Sunset”. To keep some space on our own webspace, I’ve gotten a youtube vid that combines both parts here for you.

Pretty epic, eh? So now imagine how the powers that be in remixers are going to handle this one. What you end up hearing are two vastly different ways to go about it, and that’s what I personally love about music. Everyone hears something different in songs, and that difference is also what helps to bring people together. So after hearing the aforementioned original, and after listening to these two remixes, tell us which of the two you prefer! What would you do differently? What elements of the original would you use and leave out? Enjoy!

More Phoenix

Yes. It’s more of this French band. We’ve posted a handful of their tracks so far, with TLO tossing up two cuts from their latest album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Well, I am posting the tracks “1901” and “Girlfriend”, today. Not to mention, a pretty sweet remix of “1901”, to boot. So while this post may be short, it has plenty in it. This is stuff that should make you all a bunch of happy campers. Enjoy!

And if you don’t go buy this stuff, I will impregnate a woman. That’s how serious I am about this.

Not easily offended

Friends since childhood in Paris.

Come 1996, one group becomes Daft Punk, and the other becomes Phoenix.

Come 2009, no one has not heard of Daft Punk, but have you ever heard of Phoenix? They both have a handful of studio albums under their belt. Only one got the Grammies and the headlining gigs though. Phoenix is currently on tour to support the upcoming album, and It looks like the London, Holland, Paris, and Berlin shows are sold out. So there is that. And someone in the US has obviously heard of them: Chicago, NYC and DC have sold out as well. You can check them out if you’re planning to hit Bonnaroo.

If you were planning to skip all summer festivals because you assume that we your loyal music servants will report on them fully, you need to start contributing to our event fund. Because I don’t know if you’ve looked out the window lately, but there’s a recession out there. We do what we can. So, with that said… You’ll be at Bonnaroo right? Let us know how it is. They will also be at Austin City Limits in October, so if you’ve been a good little boy or girl and you’ve made your contribs, then we will go to that and tell you all about it. Hell, technically it seems to me like they are free during Outside Lands, so maybe we’ll see their name added to the lineup.

The new album hits US shelves on Tuesday. They previewed a few tracks from Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix when they appeared on SNL back in April. Check out Track 1, Lisztomania, here:

Another new song they shared is called 1901. How about a remixed version? In this Ivan Beck Redub, this track is stretched out a bit and transformed into the island version. Check it out:

The tracks on Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix do sound more full, more developed and mature, than earlier work that I’ve been able to sample. 2004’s Alphabetical reminds me of Just Jack, whom I just love all the same. In fact, if you challenged me, I might guess that just about any of the tracks off the earlier album belonged to Mr. Jack. Check out “Everything is Everything” from Alphabetical.

This year’s album manages to remain upbeat without chewing too much bubble gum, but don’t get me wrong… You could still catch me prancing home from the pool as if leading my own parade if I had this playing in the earbuds. (Never mind that I’ve got to get that remix loaded into the Pod too!) Oh, you didn’t hear about my parade? Yeah. You need to listen to the podcast, my friend. You can click that icon on the right of this blog page, or you can follow this link.

And the easiest way to start making your contributions to the bloggers you love the most is by compriando algo aqui:

Or you can just buy me something. I take a Small.

Bunchin’ up…..

Anyone remember Buffalo Bunch? Yes? No? Well, it’s more French stuff from the early part of this decade. And it’s house music, to boot. I’ve been back through some records of mine again, and I have to admit there’s some stuff I sort of cringe thinking I actually own it. These aren’t some of those tracks, however.

Well, here I have two tracks remixed by the Buffalo Bunch that I own. The remixes are of Modjo – they of “Lady” fame, of which the Harry “Choo Choo” Romero remix I used to play often – and of Phoenix. On top of that, I have a couple of other cuts posted here that go right along with what the post is about. So all in all, a fun post with lots of French house that oughta make you boogie in your chair. So enjoy!

And I have a beatin’ stick here for anyone that doesn’t go buy this stuff. Now I need to go do stuff. And be productive. Yeah. That’s what I’ll do. Stuff.
