Arcade Fire sucks

Yes, I said it. They suck. Have you heard this poor excuse for a new single? I mean, it’s like their record label held them at gunpoint and said, “Listen, we need a hit, not for you all to do your best Bruce Springsteen impression and fail miserably.” This new song “Ready To Start” off of their upcoming The Suburbs is pretty accurately titled. They’re ready to start pissing me off and force me to kick a puppy or a homeless guy. It’s seriously godawful and lacking of any real creativity. The beginning riff is a ripoff of something that I just can’t think of right away. And that makes me even more pissed off.

So how about this? I write a faux letter of sorts to the Arcade Fire.

Dear Arcade Fire,

Please stop making this music. As I write this, my ears are bleeding and I’m taking four different prescriptions to keep the seizures your music causes at bay. You are not a gay clone of Bruce Springsteen. Enclosed, please find the picture of a dead bird. This bird did not die by being hit by a car. No, I happened to have my windows open playing your atrocious new single, “Ready To Start”, and it simply fell from the sky. If I believed in a God, I would take this as a sign to stop playing your music. Please go back to the days of Funeral and make me feel as though you care about what you make. Thank you.

Regards,
Walt Zink

Now, unfortunately I will be posting this poor excuse for a song.

  1. sounds pretty good…you should listen again…if you still think it sounds like the boss(WTF?) then maybe you ought to hang it up(i could hear the influence on "neon bible" but not here)

  2. it's ARCADE FIRE

    there's no "the".

if you're going to pile shit on a band, at least get their name right. :p

  3. Who cares about the name? Anyway, I'm with you on this one. No creativity. Whatsoever. I'm disappointed.

However, did you see how popular your post got on hypem? I hope it's just people listening and going, "Wow, what happened to that band?"

  4. chai – bands don't suddenly drop their influences. this is a craptacular song that will ONLY get played because it's arcade fire.

daniel – i think by adding "the", i'm just adding to their pompous look. a few friends of mine have worked with them. very few nice words were said about them. the phrase "high and mighty" was bandied about fairly often.

the10th – this band got real bad, real quick. i pray the same doesn't hold true for wolf parade (their first gig, if i remember correctly, was to open for arcade fire). then again, i think spencer krug is head and shoulders above win butler with regard to songwriting. butler is a hack.

  5. I agree with you. In fact, I bet that you could construct this same song entirely from bits of other indie-rock from the past 25 years. I guess if someone listens to it without thinking that it's been done 1000 times before then maybe it is more enjoyable.

  6. No talent or creativity at all. It's just the same boring, repetitive chords jangling over and over from start to end. There's no verses or chorus or hook to it at all. The singer has that voice that I hate in all this new music. Sounds like right before he went up to sing somebody kicked him square in the nuts and he said, "screw it I'm singing it anyway"

  7. I just heard a song by Arcade Fire and was inspired to google "Arcade Fire sucks," which took me to your website.

Glad to find some like-minded people. God this band sucks so bad.

  8. glad we are all on the same page! keep letting us know how you feel about this band!

…and thanks for taking the time to read this post!

  9. my reaction is more along of the lines of: meh. style fatigue. I'm ready for the "it" indie sound to move on and be something else now.

  10. I wish they'd just change their name or call it quits and do something else.

I'm fed up of finding Arcade Fire everywhere when I search the internet for arcade stuff not related to the band.

I don't get why people like this band. Musically- the band sucks. To me they sound like a very very awful re-hash of Smashing Pumpkins or weezer and just follow the lame-o trend of crappy bands today who don't play solos or show any prowess at their instrument. Its just get up there and act stupid on the stage so it seems… weezer started all that stuff but that's how it is I guess.

Arcade Fire is too hipster and wicker parkish…
